Dear SLLIS families and colleagues,
I hope that you have all enjoyed and will continue to enjoy another gorgeous fall weekend in St. Louis! Thank you to the Dodson (TFS), Britt (TIS/TSS), Schaus (TSS), and Meyer (TSS) families for joining us at the October Board meeting. We had one public comment from Meyer (TSS) to inquire about why there are fewer Board meetings this school year than in previous years and that more frequent meetings might allow for more parent attendees. He also requested that we add titles/labels and years of publication to the front cover of our handbooks.
The Board approved revisions to the Family Handbook and Code of Conduct. Heads of Schools will distribute these electronically to families this week and later in the school year they will be available in print and on our website. The Board appointed two new Board members: Tim Cline, an attorney at Bryan Cave, whose term began at the October meeting, and Ed Monser, President and COO at Emerson, whose term will begin in January. Tim Cline was also elected to replace Heather Boelens as Secretary. The Board discussed whether a bylaws change was needed to enact three dormant offices: vice-chair, vice-secretary, and vice-treasurer. The Board discussed UMSL’s Annual Review of SLLIS. The Board is required to submit a response to UMSL’s Annual Review by November 30th. Both the bylaws question and Annual Review were referred to committees for review and recommendation.
Each Board committee (Governance, Finance, Facilities & Audit, Academic Excellence, and Development) presented their monthly reports and committee performance dashboards. Before Executive Session, I presented my report about our internal Critical Friends Visits to each of our schools, updating our annual planning cycle, increasing our operations capacity, and the first leg of my Eisenhower Fellowship to Finland.
