Weekly Overview: 5/28/12 – 6/3/12

There are just two weeks left until the last week of school! Check out all the year end events going on this week:

Monday 5/28: No school for Memorial Day.

Wednesday 5/30: 4th quarter ends. Last day of Amigos y Amis.

Thursday 5/31: School closed – No school. The Club SLLIS theme will be Summer Fun.

From 5 – 6 pm, join Madame Louise for French class for parents. Bring a writing utensil and paper.

Friday 6/1: Field Day

StackFest registration forms are due.

Saturday 6/2: The TSS Kindergarten Readiness Assessment runs from 8:30 am  – 3:30 pm.

Sunday 6/3: The SLLIS Year End Celebration begins at 12 pm at Tegeler Field (northeast side of SLU’s campus across from Tegeler Hall).

Weekly Overview: 5/21/12 – 5/27/12

Take a look at what’s happening at SLLIS during this upcoming lovely spring week:

Monday 5/21: The Meet and Greet Host Family Orientation happens from 6 – 8 pm. This event is facilitated by SLLIS Intern Task Force. Current Host Families: if you have chosen to not host next year, we still invite you to attend to provide support or testimony to future host families. For more information, contact Brenda Butler at 314-401-6919.

Wednesday 5/23: The monthly Board of Directors meeting will be held from  6 – 8 pm.

The TSS Kindergarten classes are heading over to the Botanical Garden for the finale of their PYP unit on how the world works, plants and animals, from 9 am – 2:30 pm.

Thursday 5/24: No school for PD days. The Club SLLIS theme will be Detective School.

From 5 – 6 pm, join Madame Louise for French classes for parents. Please bring paper and a writing utensil.

Friday 5/25: No school for PD days. The Club SLLIS theme will be Detective School.

Remember that there is also no school next Monday (5/28). Enjoy your 5-day weekend and your Memorial Day festivities!

Weekly Overview: 5/14/12 – 5/20/12

Hello and welcome to a new week. We hope that your Mother’s Day was full of love, gratitude and family. Check out what’s happening at SLLIS this week:

Tuesday 4/15: The PYP Parent Committee meeting will be held at 9 am in the Parents’ Lounge. These meetings help parents to get more familiar with the PYP curriculum and its impact on our children and school. For more information contact PYP Coordinator Sara Schmittgens at sara2@sllis.org.

The New Metrolink Station Planning Meeting is from 5 – 7 pm at the Cortex Building Lobby (4320 Forest Park Avenue).

Wednesday 5/16: Join Conrad for a cup of coffee at 9 a.m. in the Parents’ Lounge. Please bring your own mug, and he’ll bring the coffee. Coffee with Conrad meets every third Wednesday of the month.

Thursday 5/17: Join Madame Louise on Thursdays from 5 – 6 for French classes for parents. Please bring a pen or pencil and paper.

Saturday 5/19: TSS Orientation is from 9 – 10 am. TFS Orientation is from 10:30 – 11:30 am. TCS Orientation is from 12 – 1 pm. All Orientations will be held at our Papin location and are for new families only. New families will receive the Handbook, Code of Conduct, Uniform Vouchers and other information about before/after care and transportation, and more. For current families, all of the above will be sent home with their children the week following orientation.

Weekly Overview: 5/7/12 – 5/13/12

How was your Cinco de Mayo party weekend? We hope you had a blast! Check out what’s happening this week:

Monday 5/7: From 5:30 – 6:30 pm, parents are invited to the Heroes in Action bullying prevention program information session.

Tuesday 5/8: From 5:30 – 6:30 pm, TSS hosts the first Family Math Night. It’s pirate themed, so don’t forget your pirate garb, mateys!

The TFS SAC meeting begins at 6 pm. TFS SAC meetings will be held every second Tuesday of the month.

Wednesday 5/9: It’s Bike to School Day! If you can’t bike then walk!

Thursday 5/10: Join Madame Louise from 5 – 6 pm for French classes for parents. Bring a writing utensil and paper.

Friday 5/11: TSS’ Buenos Días Familias runs from 7:30 – 8:15 am. Your invited to have a cup of coffee and a conversation with the administration, teachers, teacher assistants, specialist teachers and social worker about The Spanish School.

From 6 – 8 pm, SLLIS is hosting a Family Speed Stacking Workshop (the last one before the StackFest in June!) Come to learn how to speed stack or to brush up on your skills.

Saturday 5/12: Tour de Grove begins today at 9 am. Head over to SLLIS for children’s activities. There will be plenty more to do in the Grove as well. Don’t forget your bike!

From 9 – 11 am, Spanish classes for parents continue with Profesor David.

At 10 am, the TFS Kindergarten play date will take place. This event has been cancelled. The first TFS Kindergarten play date will be on June 9th.

Tuesday 5/1: Happy May!

NWEA Spring Testing begins today. Here are some tips to help prepare your child for standardized tests: Test Taking Tips

Thursday 5/3: Join Madame Louise on Thursdays from 5 – 6 for French classes. Please bring a pen or pencil and paper.

Fête de la musique is rescheduled for today from 6-8 pm. Come for a fun evening of celebrating music with The French School. Each class will perform a song and then we will have finger food after. Dress code is formal uniforms, except Mme Marie France’s class should wear a read or white shirt like on gym days.

Saturday 5/5: Profesor David teaches Spanish Class for Parents today from 9 -  11 am

Hoy es el Cinco de Mayo! If you haven’t already registered for the TSS Salsa Party fundraiser, get your tickets at the door. The fiesta is for adults only and will run from 7 pm until midnight at SLLIS.

Weekly Overview: 4/23/2012 – 4/29/2012

What a jam-packed week we have ahead of us:

Tuesday 4/24: The PYP Parent Committee will meet at 5 pm. PYP Parent Committee meetings will help parents to get more familiar with the PYP curriculum and its impact on our children and school. The PYP Parent Committee will meet next on May 15, 2012 at 9 am. For more information contact PYP Coordinator Sara Schmittgens at sara2@sllis.org.

Wednesday 4/25: The Spanish School’s Feria del Libro (Book Fair) begins today at 8 am and runs until 4 pm in the SLLIS gym. The fair continues on Thursday (4/26) and Friday (4/27).

Join us at 5 pm for a Meet and Greet with the new Head of The Chinese School Dr. Lydia Chen.

Immediately following the Meet and Greet at 6 pm, the Board of Directors meeting will be held until 8 pm.

Thursday 4/26: TSS Feria del Libro (Book Fair) continues today from 8 am – 6 pm. From 3:30 – 6 pm today there will be face painting, movies, activities and more. The last day of the book fair is Friday (4/27).

At 8:30 am, the Intern Task Force meeting will take place in the Parents’ Lounge. The meeting is hosted by Lisa Dorner and Molly Koebbe, sllispainterns@gmail.com.

Join Madame Louise on Thursdays from 5 – 6 for French classes. Please bring a pen or pencil and paper.

From 6 – 8 pm, TFS hosts the Fête de la musique The Fête de la Musique will be POSTPONED one week. It will take place next Thursday, May 3rd from 6 – 8 pm.

Friday 4/27: No school today for conferences. The Club SLLIS theme will be All the World’s a Stage.

The TSS Feria del Libro (Book Fair) continues today from 8 am – 6 pm. Today is the last day to get some great books!

Saturday 4/28: Spanish Class for Parents will continue today from 9 – 11 am.

From 10 am – 12 pm, come see TFS’ new home at our new location at 19th and Olive.

From 12 – 2 pm, meet other Spanish School families and make new friends at the TSS New Family Playdate. Plus, enjoy cotton candy, snow cones, sack races, bean bag toss and more. Bring a potluck dish to share! RSVP by April 25th to Maria Brett: mkbrett@sbcglobal.net or call or text 314-853-3590.

From 2 – 4 pm, TCS and TJS New Family Bowling will be at Moolah Lanes on Lindell Blvd.

From 2 – 6 pm, the Interns & Teachers vs. Parents soccer game will be held at Concordia Turners Gym.

Weekly Overview: 4/16/12 – 4/22/12

After a rainy weekend, hopefully the sun will be shining this week. But you know what they say– Un abril lluvioso trae un mayo hermoso (April showers bring May flowers).

Wednesday 4/18: The Intern Committee meeting will meet at 8 am. Please note the earlier meeting time and day. New host coordinators will be attending the meeting in hopes of getting to know new hosts (and families interested in hosting) so we hope you can make it!

Join Conrad for a cup o’ Joe the third Wednesday of every month at 9 am in the Parents’ Lounge. Please bring your own mug, and he’ll bring the Joe!

Thursday 4/19: Join Madame Louise from 5 – 6 for a French class. Please bring a pen or pencil and paper.

From 6 – 7:30 pm, TFS hosts their Family Reading Night.

Friday 4/20: No school today for Professional Development. The Club SLLIS theme is Earth Day.

Saturday 4/21: Join Profesor David Costas at Spanish Classes for Parents at 9 am.

From 2 – 4 pm, TFS New Family Bowling will take place at Moolah Lanes (3821 Lindell Boulevard St. Louis) Bienvenue new families!

Sunday 4/22: Happy Earth Day! How do you celebrate?

Welcome back from the weekend! For those of you who celebrate Easter, we hope you had a great holiday!

Tuesday 4/10: The TFS SAC meeting will be held at 6:30 pm.

Wednesday 4/11: The much-appreciated Staff Appreciation Lunch will take place. If you would like to donate a dish or help with set up (10:30) or clean up (1:30), please contact Lisa Berman at lisaberman@rocketmail.com or 314-398-6839. Assignments for April are: First Grade-Appetizers, Second Grade-Main Dishes, Third Grade-Side Dishes, Kindergarten-Desserts.

From 6:30 – 8 pm, join us to celebrate the accomplishments of our budding musicians at our violin recital.

Thursday 4/12: Join Madame Louise on Thursdays from 5 – 6 for French classes. Please bring a pen or pencil and paper.

At 6 pm, the TSS SAC meeting will take place.

From 2 – 4 pm, TSS New Family Bowling will take place at Moolah Lanes, located at 3821 Lindell Blvd. New TSS families are welcome to come meet faculty, interns and new friends from The Spanish School!

Weekly Overview: 3/26/2012 – 4/1/2012

Monday 3/26: Welcome back to school!

Tuesday 3/27: There will be 2 Safe Touch Program Parent Info Sessions held at 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm. These info sessions are optional.

Wednesday 3/28: Join us in thanking the Parents’ Assembly parents for their indefatigable efforts and support for SLLIS from 5pm – 6pm in the multipurpose room.

Following the Thank You PA Celebration, the monthly Board of Directors meeting will occur from 6 – 8 pm. All are welcome to attend.

Thursday 3/29: The Intern Task Force meeting will happen from 8:30 – 9:30 am, hosted by Lisa Dorner and Molly Koebbe (sllispainterns@gmail.com)

Friday 3/30: You are invited to a cup of coffee at The Spanish School at 7:30 am. This is an opportunity to have a conversation with the administration, teachers, teacher assistants, specialist teachers and social worker about TSS. The coffee date will take place in the KE classroom, Prof. Scheilla and Alicia’s class.

Saturday 3/31: The 19th and Olive Open House originally scheduled for March 31 is postponed. As soon as TFS teachers have toured the building, a new date will be announced.

Sunday 4/1: Happy April Fools Day! (and by the way, don’t forget that school IS in session today)
