TFS SAC meeting minutes and information

Merci to those of you who attended the TFS Student Advisory Council (SAC) meeting yesterday. The April TFS SAC meeting minutes can be downloaded here.

The next TFS SAC meeting will be Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 6 pm. Meetings will be held every second Tuesday of the month at 6 pm. All families are welcome and encouraged to attend.

 

 

Weekly Overview: 2/27/12 – 3/4/12

It’s already marzo/mars/March. Springtime is just around the corner! Check out what’s happening this week as we bring in the third month of the year:

Wednesday 2/29: From 9 – 10 am, Coffee with the Currents will be held. This is an opportunity for future SLLIS families to meet with our current families to discuss their concerns, share their visions and ask questions.

From 4 – 5 pm, the PA-SAC Transition meeting will take place. This meeting will articulate communications needs for SLLIS-wide and school-specific announcements, refine how we use our current tools, and create consistent expectations for internal and external communications. Lisa Dorner will coordinate donation-based childcare for this event.

Thursday 3/1: Join Madame Louise on Thursdays from 5 – 6 for French classes. Please bring a pen or pencil and paper.

Saturday 3/3: The Ram’s game fundraiser will take place. Volunteers must be trained prior to working an event. When 15 or more volunteers show up from SLLIS, we can have our own concession booth, otherwise we share a booth with another organization. Event time is at 7pm, and volunteers must arrive 3 hours prior to event time. Dismissal time post-event varies by stand. Contact Dale for more info at sllisPAfundraising@gmail.com or 314-435-6422.

Sunday 3/4: The Greet the Interns event will take place from 2pm-4pm in the Multipurpose Room at SLLIS. Each year SLLIS welcomes interns from international universities to support our 1st-3rd grade classes. Join us to meet this year’s interns. Tuesday 2/14: HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

This month’s Second Tuesdays Microbreweries tour will be at Schlafly Bottleworks, 7260 Southwest Ave. in Maplewood from 7 – 9 pm. Parents, staff, incoming families, teachers and interns are invited! Participants must be 21. Each person pays for his or her own beer and food. Door prizes will be given! For details, contact this month’s organizer, Peter Manion, at sllisPApromotions@gmail.com.

Wednesday 2/15: Join Conrad for a cup of coffee the third Wednesday of every month at 9 a.m. in the Parents’ Lounge. Please bring your own mug, and he’ll bring the coffee.

The Staff Appreciation Lunch has been rescheduled to today from last week. The assignments for February are Appetizers: Third Grade, Main Dishes: Kindergarten, Side Dishes: First Grade, Desserts: Second Grade. Email Lisa Berman at sllispateacherappreciation@gmail.com if you’re planning on bringing a dish.

From 4 – 5 pm, the PA-SAC Transition meeting will take place. This is the first meeting to review needs for master calendar planning, which will include SLLIS-wide events and school-specific events for curriculum education, enrollment season, family social/fellowship, parent/adult-only social/promotions and, where possible, SLLIS participation in community events (like Open Streets, Cinco de mayo, etc). Lisa Dorner will coordinate donation-based childcare for this event.

Thursday 2/16: The TFS book fair begins today and will continue until tomorrow, Friday 2/17.

Join TFS for the Fete du Livre book sale and party from 4 – 7 pm.

Join Madame Louise on Thursdays from 5 – 6 for French classes for parents. Please bring a pen or pencil and paper.

From 5:30 – 7 pm, the IB panel will take place.

Friday 2/17: No school today because of conferences. The Club SLLIS theme will be Around the World.

The TFS book fair will continue.

Weekly Overview: 2/6/12 – 2/12/12

And so begins another busy week at SLLIS!

Monday 2/6: From 1:30 – 3 pm, SLLIS founder and president, Rhonda Broussard, is hosting an HR Info Session for the Chinese and the Japanese Schools to learn more about the St. Louis Language Immersion Schools model and the next steps for consideration for employment.  Participants will also get to observe an immersion classroom in The French School or The Spanish School. RSVP to rhonda@sllis.org.

Tuesday 2/7: From 6 – 7:30 pm, join the Parents’ Assembly in the Multipurpose room for their monthly meeting. This meeting is open to all parents. Childcare and light supper will be provided. For more information contact parentsassembly@gmail.com.

This is the first meeting to understand how parent-initiated events/programs have been funded in the past and how new events will be funded in the 2012-13 school year. Thursday 2/9: The Center for Hearing and Speech in St. Louis is coming to SLLIS to perform free vision and hearing screenings for TFS students today and Friday (2/10).

From 5 – 6 pm, join Madame Louise for French classes for parents. Be sure to bring paper and a writing utensil.

From 6 – 7 pm, TSS SAC will hold their meeting. Contact Maribel Martinez for more information (maribel@sllis.org)

From 6 – 8 pm, the TCS/TJS School Project Group meeting will be held.

Weekly Overview: 1/30/12 – 2/5/12

Can you believe it’s already the end of January/enero/janvier? 1/12th of the new year has already passed! Let’s take a peek at what’s in store this week:

Wednesday 2/1: The next PA-SAC Transition meeting will be held from 4 – 5 pm in the Parents’ Lounge. This is the first meeting to discuss our long-term development strategy, how parent-driven fundraising supports SLLIS and how we will have clearer expectations, staff support and stewardship of parent gifts.
Lisa Dorner will coordinate donation-based childcare for this event.

This week’s Love and Logic class with Conrad will be postponed until next Wednesday (2/8). Please RSVP to conrad@sllis.org if you plan to attend.

Thursday 2/2: The Center for Hearing and Speech in St. Louis is coming to SLLIS to perform free vision and hearing screenings for TSS students today and Friday (2/3). TFS students will have the screenings on February 9th and 10th.

Friday 2/3: The Center for Hearing and Speech in St. Louis is coming to SLLIS to perform free vision and hearing screenings for TSS students today. TFS students will have the screenings on February 9th and 10th.

Join our TSS first graders at 5:45 pm for their grand Immersion Celebration. The Immersion Celebration will celebrate our first graders’ achievement of being immersed in the Spanish language for 18 months. The students will receive a diploma to commemorate their achievements thus far and serve as a symbol of their commitment to continue learning.

Here’s to hoping your February/febrero/février is off to a great start!

Weekly Overview: 1/23/12 – 1/29/12

As the weather outside becomes more and more frightful, take delight in all of the SLLIS activities and events this week:

Wednesday 1/25: From 4 – 5 pm, the next PA-SAC Transition meeting will be held. This is the first meeting to articulate communications needs for SLLIS-wide and school-specific announcements, refine how we use our current tools, and create consistent expectations for internal and external communications. Lisa Dorner will coordinate donation-based childcare for this event.

Join us at 5:30 – 7:30 pm for the immersion and IB panel, an opportunity for community members to hear from young adult graduates of immersion and/or IB schools. It’s an excellent opportunity to ask them about their K-12 experience, the utility of language immersion and their unique challenges. Envision your child as a SLLIS graduate!

The Board of Directors will meet from 6 – 8 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Thursday 1/26:The PA Intern Task Force will meet from 8:30 – 9:30 am and will be hosted by Lisa Dorner and Molly Koebbe, sllispainterns@gmail.com.

Friday 1/27: Unsatisfied with your school photo or absent on school picture day? Photo retakes/make-ups will be held on Friday the 27th. The photographers will begin taking pictures at 10 am. Be sure to look your best!

Weekly Overview: 1/16/12 – 1/22/12

…And finally winter begins! Hopefully the snow hasn’t caused too many problems for everyone thus far. Let’s bundle up and get ready for a new week:

Monday 1/16: No school for MLK Jr. Day. The Club SLLIS theme will be Three Ring Circus.

Wednesday 1/18: Join Conrad for a cup of coffee in the Parents Lounge from 9 – 10 am every third Wednesday of the month. Bring your own mug, and he’ll have the coffee.

From 4 – 5 pm, meet in the Parents’ Lounge for the weekly PA-SAC Transition meeting, focusing on master calendar planning.  This will include SLLIS-wide events and school-specific events for curriculum education, enrollment season, family social/fellowship, parent/adult-only social/promotions and, where possible, SLLIS participation in community events (like Open Streets, Cinco de mayo, etc). Lisa Dorner will coordinate donation-based childcare for this event.

Thursday 1/19: Take French lessons from Madame Louise from 5 – 6 pm. Bring a writing utensil and paper.

From 6 – 7 pm, the TSS SAC meeting will take place. Contact Maríbel Martinez with any questions: maribel@sllis.org

Friday 1/20: Come have a cup of coffee at The Spanish School from 7:30 – 8:15 am. This is an opportunity to have a conversation with the TSS administration, teachers, teacher assistants, specialist teachers and social worker. The next coffee date will be on February 24th.
